First Day Fixes

Hi! It's about 12 hours after the 7/20/23 MechJam deadline, and I fixed a couple issues:

  • All the switch-box links point to the intended pages, so you don't get trapped in an eternal temporal whirlpool, two screens before the end
  • As far as I can tell, the text toggles are now firing off correctly, where before, some narration was appearing in the wrong story branches and missing elsewhere
  • I added a link to the Options page at the start, and a header that makes sure the font and dice-roll toggles actually affect what they say they do
  • The debug screen is off, and won't jump up and block the entire screen if the game produces an error message

Design Issues:

  •      The game's missing over half the scenes I planned at the start of the jam, and I don't think the gap was bridged with resourceful roguish panache. From a narrative standpoint, many things the player is told will happen, don't.
Arson's "Kill the beast!" section is missing entirely, for example, and everything after it was put together in ten minutes, just to bring the main storyline to some kind of conclusion. Needs more love and attention!
  •      The dice rolling mechanic intentionally limits the number of choices a player can make, but if you randomly roll a 6, you don't get to make a choice at all. And that really takes the interactivity out of playing a game!
If the dice are unlucky enough, it's possible to roll a 6- every time, in which case you end up reading a static novel instead of participating in one.
On a future update, I'm hoping to add a luck token, where even if you roll a 6, your choices are "Do I accept the one option given to me, or do I spend my luck token to get more options?"

Even though I got carried away and didn't write the grand narrative I planned on, I'm really proud. All the underlying systems I wanted to build, like the switchboxes and the dice rolls,  those work just like I hoped! After the voting period, I want to return to this project, and build on some of the foundations laid down in the last two weeks.
